Yes, And You, Ma’am

For the past several weeks, our sermon series at LifeSong has been “DNA,” unpacking all that makes up our church from volunteering, to discipleship, to community transformation.  As we focused on community transformation yesterday, we were simply challenged to LOVE.  Love should be the force that drives us to change the lives of those around us.  Love should not stay within the four walls of our building, but should bust right through the walls, bringing life to our mission statement, “Being missionaries where we live, work and play.”  Who we are individually in Christ has everything to do with who we are to those in our workplaces, homes, and community.  You love well, you live well!

1 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life-and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.2 Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Romans 12:1, 2 tells us just how we can transform our community for Christ.  I love the words, “Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.”  This is the stuff that puts life in perspective.  Focus on every little thing that God does for you (which is, how He LOVES you) each and everyday, and the turnaround will be you will love well.  You will be a change-maker.

Being a change-maker was the challenge from Jeff yesterday.  First, who sees their need for that loving God in their life…a God who desires the very best in you, and will bring OUT the very best IN you?  We saw 10 people rise up to say, “I want to be a Christ-follower!”  Nothing…and I mean NOTHING…excites me more than to know people are leaving our doors changed…life transformation.  Secondly, all Christ-followers were challenged, “Who is God calling to step out and follow Him in full-time ministry?” Now, understand, if we are His child, we are ALL called to…remember…”Be missionaries where we live, work and play.”  But, just this week alone, we have seen six people say, “My yes is on the table to go wherever God would send me.”  Yesterday, as Jeff challenged us, yet again, this is what I heard as our eyes were closed and we were asked the question, “Who is God calling?”  I heard, “Thank you, sir, Thank you, sir, Thank you ma’am, and you ma’am…yes, and you ma’am” and so on and so on and so on!  My heart just about burst open!  Ladies, as I hear you answering the call to let God take control and leave your yes on the table, I am so OVER the moon (over the SUPERmoon  🙂 ) proud of you!  My heart is for you, ladies of LifeSong!  I believe in you and want you to know, “Do not be afraid” of where He leads you. How do you do that?  Love well!  Be the very best version of who He has already created you to be!

Romans 12:9-16

9 Love from the center of who you are; don’t fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good.10 Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.
11 Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master,12 cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder.13 Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.
14 Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath.15 Laugh with your happy friends when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down.16 Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody

Tomorrow, I want to share with you God’s calling on my life.  If He can call me, He can call you!  He calls us all.  My heart is so FOR you!  Today, embrace the life He’s given you.  You are the change-maker in someone’s life!  Go for it! Love them!
