“I Depend On It”

As I drove my girls to school this morning, I listened to one of my favorite morning shows, “Hawk and Tom.” If you ever listen, you know you’re gonna hear some wild and wacky things.  I literally laugh so hard at the things they say and do that it’s, sometimes, hard to concentrate on driving.

Today, as I drove along, they had couples that had gone on a first date, but no second date, call in to explain why they thought that second date didn’t happen.  Both the guy and the girl said they had a really good time together, but when the girl woke up the next day, she read her horoscope and it said, “The romantic endeavor you just went on, will not work out.”  The girl explained that this was reason enough for her to not want to go out again, because, “I depend on my horoscope everyday,” she said.  Really?  She was NOT joking.  She elaborated that she made her decisions based on how her horoscope read everyday.  I’ve thought a lot about this before today, but to actually hear someone be so serious as to say she looks for a potential mate for life based on what her horoscope says everyday made me stop and go “Ummmm…”.  For most, I hope they read their horoscope and know it’s completely bogus, but now, I wonder?

What are you depending on to guide you? If you are reading this today and you are God’s child, and you read your horoscope everyday, why?

“The Spirit makes it clear that as time goes on, some are going to give up on the faith and chase after demonic illusions put forth by professional liars” 1 Timothy 4:1

I’m not suggesting by using this verse that you have given up on your faith and turned to horoscopes, but I am suggesting you are opening your mind up to enough confusion to waver your faith.  God has promised us He is more than enough for any decision we face.  Maybe you say, “I only read it because it’s fun.  It’s just entertainment.”  Child of God, place your attention on Him.

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:1,2 NKJV

Believer, your horoscope is not of God.  Plain and simple.  My desire is not to preach AT you, but rather to encourage you, as in all things, to seek those things that ARE of Him.

“And also carefully guard yourselves so that you don’t look up into the skies and see the sun and moon and stars, all the constellations of the skies, and be seduced into worshiping and serving them. God set them out for everybody’s benefit, everywhere.” Deuteronomy 4:19 MSG

Set your firm foundation on what is good and true.  There’s a lot out there that competes for our attention and leads us down a road we don’t want to travel.  But you, woman of God, man of God, have a greater foundation.  You’ve been made new (Colossians 3:3), no longer living the old, dead life.  His Word tells us to “kill off everything connected with death.” (Colossians 3:5) and we get to replace that with new LIFE!

“Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another-showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way.” 2 Timothy 3:16

Depend on that which is Truth today, believer.  Are you missing out, like the young woman on the radio today, on what God intended to be in your life by, instead, believing lies from a newspaper?  Who’s guiding you everyday? Stand upon the One that covers it all.  He never fails.

  1. Amen! There are too many distractions in our world today; too many false hopes that people are grasping at. Maybe if we within the body of Christ would set out to stand a bit firmer in our faith & set out to stand out from the crowd, we could show those that are holding on to false hopes that the real hope is found only in Jesus Christ. Thanks for the encouragment!
